In 2011, Department of Medicine no. 1 is reorganized into the Discipline of Pneumology and Allergology, being offered as a clinical base the Allergology Department of the Republican Clinical Hospital and Phthisiopneumology Department no. 3 of Chiril Draganiuc Phthisiopneumology Institute.

In terms of teaching, the Department ensures the training of fourth year students in pulmonology and allergology, the training of residents as well as the refresher training of doctors through continuing medical education courses.

In 2017, the Department trained the sixth year students of Faculty of Medicine no. 2 according to Clinical Syntheses module.

In 2006, Department of Internal Medicine no. 2 is merged with Department of internal medicine no. 1, professor Victor Botnaru being appointed the head of the new subdivision. The Department headquarters relocated to the Republican Clinical Hospital, with clinical bases at the General Therapy, Nephrology and Rheumatology Units.

In terms of teaching, the Department continues to provide training in the field of internal diseases for the fourth year students, internal medicine residents and residents in related specialties.

In 1998, based on this Department, the General Practice and Primary Healthcare Department was founded. It was headed by associate professor G. Bivol, in charge of general (family) practitioners’ training during the postgraduate period (residency). At the same time, the activities involving the fourth year students of the General Medicine Faculty and Internal Medicine residents were entrusted to the new composition of Internal Medicine Department no. 2, led by university professor Victor Botnaru, doctor habilitated in medical sciences.

The academic staff of the Department consisted of young and experienced employees from the previous department and from the Department of Internal Medicine-Semiology, which had been led by professor Victor Botnaru for 3 years.

Thus, since 1998, Sf. Arhanghel Mihail Municipal Clinical Hospital no. 2 has become the Department’s clinical base. Besides, Department staff has intensified its didactic, methodical, scientific and practical activity in order to meet the modern requirements concerning the university and postgraduate training of specilaists in the field of internal medicine.

The discipline of pneumology and allergology is the successor of the Department of Internal Medicine for students at the faculties of Preventive Medicine and Dentistry, founded in accordance with MSSR Health Ministry Order no. 193 of 28.08.1967.

Associate professor A. Diordiţa was the first head of the department. Among the pioneers of the Department are the following associate professors: N. Luchianov, P. Sangheli, M. Vatolin, A. Nacu, N. Migali, V. Hortolomei, I. Balan, V. Rusnac, L. Alexeev. The establishment of the Department was justified by the considerable increase, in the second half of the 60s, in the number of students enrolled at the Preventive Medicine and Dentistry faculties.

Initially, the Department provided faculty therapy courses as well as hospital therapy courses to the students of the mentioned faculties.
