A brief history

The Department of Internal Medicine was founded in 1967 for students of preventive medicine and dentistry faculties. In 1967-1978 the Department of Internal Medicine No2 performs its clinical activity in Municipal Hospital No.2 and then in Municipal Hospital No1. In September 1986 it was renamed in the Department of Internal Medicine of Paediatric Faculty and in 1987 – in the Department of Internal Medicine and the course of Endocrinology of the Paediatric Faculty. In 1991, after the reestablishment of Endocrinology Department, it was renamed in Internal Medicine No2. Since September 1998 the new structure of the Department comprises the staff of the previous department: that of Internal Medicine – Semiology, headed by Professor V. Botnaru, where the fourth-year students and internal medicine residents were taught. In 2006 the Department of Internal Medicine No2 was merged with the Department of Internal Medicine No1 headed by Professor C. Babiuc and its clinical site became Republican Hospital. In 2010, as a consequence of the curricular reform, The Department of Internal Medicine was formed, and the Department of Internal Medicine No 2 was renamed into Medical Clinic No2, the course of Pneumology/Allergology. Currently its clinical activity is carried out in the Republican Clinical Hospital, in the department of Allergology section as well as in “Chiril Draganiuc” Phthysiopneumology Institute.
